| Minutes of the last meeting (26 Sep 2007) were reviewed and accepted. Wendy will email minutes to committee members as well as send them to ecminutes@yahoo.com for posting. Jane Haeni will be the council representative with Wendy Arnold filling in as needed. Some very nice Thank You notes were received for pumpkins delivered, and for camperships awarded last summer. A discussion of our current ‘children and Communion’ policy and procedure was conducted. Having the children go directly to Sunday School classes (rather than into the Sanctuary) can lead to confusion when the children return for Communion and must locate their parents. Ken will try a compromise procedure where the children will leave the service after the Responsive Call to Worship but before the first hymn. There will always be a Children’s Message, but it may be very brief on Communion Sundays. We will try this procedure every Sunday, to allow the Sunday School teachers more time with the students. Sunday School report. Students report that they like the format, and like moving from one room to another each week. Sunday Calendar November – December: 18 Nov – last day of current rotation 25 Nov – Family Sunday 2 & 9 Dec – practice for the Musical (16 Dec) for grades 2 – 12. Sunday School for younger grades/ pre-school. 16 Dec – Musical presentation by Shari Wilcox and grades 2 – 12. 23 Dec – Greens arrangements - for kids to give as a gift or display at home. 30 Dec – Combined Sunday School – 2 classes: younger and older. (need teachers – maybe the current “Shepherds” would be willing?) Brief discussion of rotations to buy – possibly “The Boy’s Lunch” or one about Disciples. Need to research. Jane Haeni presented a possible Sunday School calendar for January – June 2008. We would do 4 more rotations (4 weeks each) and one combined Sunday School per month. This would require a minimum of 4 sets of 4 teachers, and 2 teachers for each combined Sunday. Ken is confident that we can recruit enough teachers. We would like to give Bible story books or Bibles to all Sunday School students. We discussed possible titles for each age group, with the Good News Bible going to 4th – 6th graders. Sunday School attendance lists were reviewed to determine the number of books needed. We may present the books in December. The December meeting will be on December 5th at 7pm. Meeting was adjourned at 7:55pm. Respectfully Submitted, Wendy Arnold, Secretary |
