| 1. Jane reported that she had sent the budget information to Dudley. 2. The upcoming Cropwalk was discussed. It was decided that we should request time in the service on Oct 7 for a “mission moment” to inform the congregation on the importance of Cropwalk and announce any other details before the walk. Jane will e-mail Mitzi since Ken is on vacation. We will also request other mission moments during appropriate services when the need arises. 3. Delcie has put info on the Neighbors in Need project in Passages, handed out bulletin stuffers, and Mark Pierce will give the mission moment on Oct 21. 4. Marion will ask Sue to put up a sign-up sheet about Habitat for Humanity projects. 5. Delcie has called our social worker with Covenant to Care, Glenn Berman, several times with no response. She will now investigate getting a new social worker who is more responsive and not focused solely on Christmas. 6. Polly reported that planning for the Gateway luncheon on Monday, Dec 3, was underway. 7. The proposal from Matt Winkler regarding a product called “Life Straw”, which filters and purifies water was briefly discussed. Jane will contact Matt to acknowledge his proposal and she will research whether it is something the outreach committee might consider tackling as a new project this year. 8. We discussed the opportunity of creating a Christmas Fair of socially responsible presents (eg Heifer International.) The project was deemed too labor-intensive and instead we will provide a list of ideas that will go in the December Passages for individuals to then research and consider. Each member of the committee is to bring an idea for this list to the November committee meeting. 9. Mark has explored mission trips and found the UCC mission book very helpful. He would like to consider a YSOP trip and one other weekend trip. Boston and Providence are two sites under consideration. He will report on more details in November. |
