III. Committee Reports

A. Flowers – Ushers were asked to supply fresh garden flowers during the summer.

B. Youth- Dana reported that plans are set for the Youth Group to resume activities in September.

C. Coffee Hour- The summer plan of having the ushers supply cold drinks and snacks in the Cove View Room is working well. Rick commented that too much food is offered.

The condition of the church linens was discussed. Celia has checked the supply. The white cloths were stained with mildew and discarded. Chairman Steel suggested that eight new cloths be purchased. Susan Christopher volunteered to make the purchase.

D. Visitors – Celia sent two notes in June. Follow up was discussed.

E. Readers- Rick reported that the readers have been doing well. He will have the September list to Sue Engel by the beginning of the month.

F. Ushers- Sybil circulated the sign up sheet for October. The September list

has been printed and distributed. Food need not be served on August 12

at Viney Hill or August 26 at Pettipaugh.

IV. New Business

A. Pastors’ Plans for the New Season

Pastor Ken reported on new initiatives:

1. All committees will meet on the Sunday preceding Church Council beginning in January. Council meets on the second Wednesday. After church was suggested as the preferred time. Dana mentioned that that she has bell choir at that time.

2. Emails- Rev. Ken mentioned that he and Mitzi do not have time to acknowledge all Emails. If an answer is needed, Emails can be followed by a phone call to the church. From that number hey can be directed to a parsonage answering machine that has Ken’s cell number on it.

3. During church, the kitchen will be used as a Sunday school class room. The lessons will involve cooking. Coffee hour is to proceed as usual.

4. Deacons were urged to attend and participate in Rally Day on September 9.

5. To integrate generations, members will be asked to select an age group other than their own to associate with. All name tags will be given a color code. Members will be asked to associate with their own color during coffee hour.

6. New members will be accepted in October.

7. Chester is sponsoring the Crop Walk this year on October 8. At 5 PM this church will celebrate a Blessing of the Animals. It will be an outdoor ceremony. Children will be encouraged to bring their stuffed animals to communion that morning.

8. New worship opportunities

a. Once a week Rev. Ken or Rev. Mitzi will lead a service of prayer, reading and meditation from 6:30 AM to 7:30 AM on a day to be announced.

b. Church at Home will be initiated. Services will be held in homes. The host will supply the altar and the music. The

Service and those invited to attend will vary.

9. Bible Study - Ken announced that preaching will follow the Sunday School curriculum. Several Sundays devoted to the same text. Classes will be held prior to each change of text.

Members of the current Bible study group asked if they may continue to discuss the texts of the Lectionary.

!0. Rev. Ken announced two Borg discussion groups- to be held at 9AM on Saturday.

V. Old Business

Rick suggested that young musicians be sought to incorporate alternative music into the service. Members turned to Dana for help. She and her friends are involved in more traditional music.

Rick led us in prayer.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Wini Olson
