MUSIC COMMITTEE REPORT for 2006-2007

The Church’s By-Laws state: The Music Committee shall be responsible for the musical ministries of the church including services of worship, concerts, choral educational program, and opportunities for outreach. It shall be responsible for all expenditures relative to music activities as budgeted by the church. The Committee shall have charge of all musical instruments, the music library and the choir robes. The Committee may hire, supervise and review the organists(s) and choir directors.

The leadership of Barry Asch, Marsha Birch and Cheryl Harger resulted in another successful year of beautiful service music. Barry and Marsha continued to provide service music fitting to lectionary with enthusiastic response from the congregation. In addition, due to increased awareness and publicity, the Organists’ Lenten Music series was well attended and successful. Although more specific details are provided separately elsewhere in this report, a well deserved round of applause goes out to Cheryl for the moving performances of the Bell Choirs.

We owe our gratitude to the many others who have contributed their talents and time in augmenting the musical programs and in support of the youth groups and hymn sings. Thanks also to Senior Pastor Ken Peterkin for his vocal contributions and support.

Barry took the lead in identifying an interim Youth Choir Director. Shari Wilcox has brought new vigor and enthusiasm to the Joyful Noise and Junior Choirs. Mary Lewis has undertaken the mentoring of the Cherubs. The fruits of these efforts are now unfolding.

The members of the choir have continued their dedication by providing us with beautiful and fitting music. We were also blessed with the return of the jazz ensemble for the Martin Luther King Day services.

The Music Committee again completed evaluations of each of the music staff for the 2006 year.
